This is
crowyhead's reading journal. Here I will chronicle what books I'm currently reading, books that I intend to read soon, and write reviews and thoughts about current reading projects. There may be spoilers -- especially major ones will be hidden behind a cut tag, but be aware that this journal is mainly for myself, and thus I'm not likely to temper thoughts to avoid spoiling a book for any readers. I do, however, invite discussion and even disagreement regarding my current readings and my thoughts about them.
Some notes on my rating scale:
You won't often see me rate books lower than a 3, mostly because if it's less than a three I usually don't finish it. On my scale,
1 = not worth reading
2 = seriously flawed, approach with caution and don't say I didn't warn you
3 = all right, but disappointing, could have been better
4 = very good, perhaps with a handful of flaws, or just didn't grab me as "5 material"
5 = damn good, I couldn't think of anything I would have changed to make it better.
In my rating scheme, 5's aren't Oscars, they're more like A's. If I get unbridled enjoyment out of something and I think it succeeds completely at what it's trying to do, it gets a 5, whether I think it's the "Best of the Best" or not.
